PRE-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Please follow these guidelines to ensure the safest treatment and best possible results:

Avoid Sun Exposure: Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners for at least 2 weeks before treatment.
Avoid Other Skin Treatments: Do not have chemical peels, microneedling, waxing, laser treatments, or other exfoliating procedures in the treatment area for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.
Stop Active Skincare Products: Discontinue retinoids, Retin-A®, tretinoin, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, exfoliants, and other active skincare products 5–7 days before treatment unless otherwise directed by your provider.
Avoid Blood-Thinning Supplements: If approved by your healthcare provider, avoid nonessential anti-inflammatory medications and blood-thinning supplements (Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Ginkgo Biloba, etc.) for 48 hours before treatment. Do not discontinue prescribed medications without consulting your physician.
Photosensitizing Medications: Inform your provider if you are taking medications that increase sensitivity to light, including certain antibiotics, acne medications, or herbal supplements.
Cold Sore History: If you have a history of cold sores (herpes simplex), please notify your provider prior to treatment, as preventative antiviral medication may be recommended.
Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Please inform your provider if you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Limit Alcohol: Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment to minimize swelling and sensitivity.
Arrive with Clean Skin: Please arrive with clean skin free of makeup, lotions, sunscreen, or self-tanner whenever possible.
Medical History: Please inform your provider of any significant medical history, allergies, medications, or recent procedures prior to treatment.

During the Treatment

Your CO2 Laser treatment will be performed by one of our skilled professionals:

Procedure Duration: The treatment typically lasts 30-45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.Numbing will be washed off prior to treatment.
Laser Application: The Deka DOT CO2 laser delivers fractional laser energy to the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production and resurfacing the skin. This process removes damaged skin cells and promotes the growth of healthier, more youthful skin.
Comfort Measures: To enhance comfort, we offer Pronox (laughing gas) as an add-on during the procedure. Numbing cream is also applied beforehand to minimize discomfort.
Post-Treatment Expectations: After the procedure, you may experience redness and swelling, heat, similar to a sunburn. Your practitioner will provide detailed aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing.

POST-TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Following your CO2 Laser treatment, proper aftercare is crucial to support healing and achieve the best results. Follow these post-treatment instructions:

Expected Downtime: Your skin may feel warm and sunburn-like for the first 24 hours. Mild swelling is common during the first 24–48 hours and is often more noticeable in the morning. After 2–3 days, the skin may feel dry, rough, or tight. Light peeling and flaking typically begin within 5–7 days as the skin heals.
Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily for at least 2 weeks after treatment. Wear a hat or visor whenever outdoors.
Heat & Exercise: Avoid excessive heat, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga, and strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours after treatment.
No Makeup: Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours after treatment. As the skin heals and becomes dry, powder-based makeup is often more comfortable and natural-looking than liquid foundation.
Gentle Skincare Only: Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers only. Avoid retinoids, exfoliants, acids, vitamin C, benzoyl peroxide, and other active ingredients for 1–2 weeks or until approved by your provider.
Hydrate & Moisturize: Keep the skin well moisturized with healing products such as Avène Cicalfate+, Alastin Skin Nectar, Sente Dermal Repair, or other providerrecommended products. CO2Lift masks may also be used to enhance hydration and support healing.
Take Prescribed Medications: If your provider has prescribed antiviral medication, antibiotics, or other post-procedure medications, take them exactly as directed.
Avoid Picking or Scrubbing: Do not pick, scratch, rub, or exfoliate treated skin. Allow any peeling or flaking to occur naturally to reduce the risk of scarring, irritation, or hyperpigmentation.
Expected Healing: Mild redness, swelling, dryness, rough texture, peeling, and flaking are common parts of the healing process. Pinkness may persist for several weeks depending on treatment depth and individual healing response.
Pain Relief & Swelling Management: Tylenol® (acetaminophen) or Advil® (ibuprofen) may be used for discomfort if appropriate for you. To help reduce swelling, consider taking a daytime antihistamine such as Claritin®, Zyrtec®, or Allegra®, and Benadryl® at bedtime if tolerated.
Treatment Series: Treatment recommendations vary based on your skin concerns and goals. Your provider will recommend an individualized treatment plan and maintenance schedule.
Contact the Office Immediately If You Experience: Significant blistering, excessive swelling, signs of infection, drainage, severe pain, fever, or any unexpected reaction.

Today it was an hour of waiting, even aside from numbing time, they had zero communication with me as to how long it would take. I left without treatment.
I asked the owner to call, and she did not.
She had a “Manager” call.

How many treatments will I need?

Most clients experience significant improvement after just one intense treatment, though some may benefit from additional sessions for more extensive skin concerns. For example, we recommend 3 LITE treatments 4-6 weeks apart from one another.

What is the downtime?

The CO2 Laser treatment has a downtime of approximately 7-12 days, during which you may experience redness, swelling, and peeling.

Is the CO2 Laser treatment painful?

While some discomfort is to be expected, Skin Thesis offers Pronox (laughing gas) and numbing cream to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure. Typically, our patients do not need Prono and do well with just the numbing process.

How soon will I see results?

Initial improvements can be seen within a few days after the healing time, with continued improvements in skin texture and tone over the following weeks as collagen production increases.
